Sexual assault reports climb at area colleges

N.E. schools’ data tied to a greater awareness

Colleges and universities are required to disclose crime statistics every fall, in accordance with the Clery Act. The complete set of 2013 statistics will not be available from the U.S. Department of Education until at least December but the Globe reached out to a select number of schools individually for updated numbers [story]. Overall, sexual assault reports have risen but experts say that does not necessarily reflect that the crime is happening more often-- instead they say more victims are reporting the crime.
